According to the AA and Esure, this Friday is meant to be one of the busiest shopping days of the year and this is likely to impact on the UK road network.
With many shops staying open for late-night shopping and some road users trying to get to family and friends for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, there are expected to be an estimated 21 million drivers using their cars tomorrow.
For people with new driver car insurance, the Christmas rush may come as a surprise and they could be caught up in congestion as 72% of British motorists head out in their vehicles at some point during the day.
Apparently the average motorist will drive about 50 miles on the 23rd with 12% travelling more than 100 miles, which may be especially stressful if they plan to use major routes such as the M1, M4, M5 or M25, which are all predicted to suffer from slow traffic approaching Christmas Day.
Whether a road user is in the young driver category or has many years previous experience of the run-up to Christmas on the highways, checking for disruptions on their chosen route before beginning their journey could help them avoid the worst of the congestion.
