An elderly motorist may have to claim on his car insurance after being involved in an accident.
The crash occurred when a police officer was responding to an emergency call on Billinton Drive in Maidenbower near Crawley. His police car collided with another vehicle which had the older driver at the wheel.
Following the accident the road had to be closed down in both directions.
Luckily neither the pensioner nor the police man suffered any personal injuries and both cars were left with minimal damage.
A spokesperson for the Sussex police said, "[The police car] was on an emergency call and collided with a Citreon C3 being driven by a 78-year-old man from Maidenbower."
Although the officer was responding to an emergency call, he is obliged to ensure that no other drivers on the road are put in danger. He is to be interviewed about the accident.
The elderly road user may decide to pay for the minor vehicle damage by making a car insurance claim, but, as the damage was nominal he may be better off paying for it himself in order to keep his no claims bonus intact. This could help him receive cheap car insurance upon renewal.
