US road users get "winterized"It may be a different country and the language might be slightly unfamiliar but, like in the UK, road users in the US are also readying themselves for winter hazards. Car insurance company SafeAuto are advising their customers to "winterize" their vehicles in order to minimise the risks of becoming involved in a road accident. With Christmas now only a month away, the president of the motor insurance company commented, "Taking some simple preventative steps to winterize your car can mean the difference between a happy holiday and being stranded on the side of the road." The Ohio-based car insurance company issued a press release containing ten tips for motorists on how to "winterize" their vehicles. Included in these ten tips were recommendations that motorists check their "blades" (windscreen wipers), "winterize" their tyres (check tread and tyre pressure) and "winterize" their driving skills (be aware of the seasonal risks). Although winter can be a hazardous time of year for UK motorists, extreme weather conditions in some parts of the US mean that a proportion of our Atlantic cousins are already bracing themselves for blizzards, ice storms and the closing of some road networks.
