Could green and luxury finally go hand in hand?

Range Rover has promised car insurance customers a clean and quiet - even greener - driving experience in the future.

Powered by a unique electric drive-train platform, the proposed Range Rover will have a price tag ranging from £95,000 to £128,000 and status as one of the first luxury electric 4x4 vehicles on the market.

Based in Oxford, Liberty Electric Cars say that 250 new jobs will be created when they start building the new model. They are also looking for a manufacturing base in the south-west of England.

A Range Rover spokesperson said, "The Liberty Electric Range Rover takes electric vehicle technology into a new sector, to large luxury cars that people aspire to drive, particularly in cities and urban environments where environmental controls are becoming increasingly tighter."

He added that the Liberty Electric Range Rover will rival even the smallest, most fuel-efficient standard car for its environmental benefits.

As of yet, the car insurance advantages of owning such a vehicle have not been quantified, but it is hoped that cheaper car insurance will be available when compared with a similar, standard fuel model.
