Course put on for new drivers

Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) has scheduled a series of training events for motorists between the age of 17 and 25, some of whom may have car insurance for new drivers.

The drivers who enrol on the Pass Plus Xtra course will be taught advanced motoring theory and have the opportunity speak with driving experts about different car safety issues.

When the first session draws to a close, the novice drivers will be given a voucher entitling them to continue the Pass Plus training at a relatively cheap rate.

The inexperienced drivers will apparently find it easier to obtain cheap car insurance for young people, if they finish the course within one year of passing the standard driving test.

The executive member for Community and Environment at the CWaC said, "These courses are extremely popular and Pass Plus Xtra aims to build on existing skills, knowledge and experience to help reduce the risk of being involved in a crash.

"I would encourage young drivers to come along to the courses which cover theory and six on-road training modules, because a worrying statistic is that new drivers are more likely to have a crash in the first two years of passing their test, than at any other time in their driving career."

Companies offering insurance for new drivers are expected to be particularly welcoming of customers who have been trained in driving on different types of road and in various weather conditions.
