Maintaining a vehicle and car insurance for young drivers

Statistics gathered by Sainsbury's car insurance have revealed that a significant proportion of UK drivers (21%) are not keeping up with regular maintenance checks on their vehicles. Ignoring small, manageable problems early on is having a knock on effect which leads to bigger problems later on.

Car insurance for young drivers is hard to find at a cheap price, and motorists in this category are typically found to be the most neglectful towards car maintenance. It has been reported that nearly 30% of drivers aged between 18 and 24 have confessed to not keeping up with regular checks.

There is also a large difference in the way each gender handle the maintenance of a vehicle. Only 16% of male drivers admit to not conducting regular checks; compared to 26% of female drivers.

Warning new driver car insurance holders that repair bills don't have to be excessive if they take care of their vehicle is important. The older generations seem to be the best at looking after their cars with only 15% admitting they don't complete regular checks.

Geography also comes into play within these findings as individuals in places such as London and the east of England are the most neglectful of car maintenance, while motorists in Scotland and the north-east of England are much better at checking their car for faults.

Apparently the most common reason for not running regular checks is that the motorist felt it was unnecessary, though many may be surprised how much money can be saved by simply spending a few minutes every month checking over their vehicle for any problems.

However, if an accident is caused as a result of unsafe parts such as brakes or faulty lights, a driver's car insurance for young driver policy is likely to cost substantially more at renewal.
