Car insurance for young drivers could get cheaper
Calls for the legal alcohol limit for operating a motor vehicle to be reduced to zero could be good news for those who need car insurance for young drivers.
Britain's chief medical officer, Sir Liam Donaldson, has called for a complete ban on alcohol consumption combined with driving, thus eliminating the confusion that surrounds present laws that allow drivers to get behind the wheel of a car with up to 35 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milligrams of blood.
Many people do not know how much they can drink before they are over the limit, and alcohol affects people very differently, particularly young, inexperienced drinkers who may not feel the effects of alcohol quite as readily as an older person.
Sir Liam Donaldson said, "We know that even without alcohol young people are more likely to have an accident because they are inexperienced drivers, and then even with them driving within the alcohol limit they are much more likely to have an accident than an older driver."
Insurance industry experts believe that the alcohol ban could
lead to a reduction in road traffic accidents and in the long
term this would be reflected in Cheaper car
insurance premiums.
A spokesperson for Hoot commented, "Car insurance for young drivers is so adversely affected by the high levels of young motorists involved in car accidents that any move to eradicate one of the associated risks would be a welcome introduction. Alcohol and cars just do not mix."
