Car insurance hell is not all you face if caught drunk driving
Police and road safety campaigners in Lancashire are already cracking down on young people who might be considering taking the risk of drinking and driving this Christmas with the message that a drunk driving car accident can cause a lot more than an increase in the price of your car insurance for young drivers
Organisers from the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety are delivering a message that, "just one drink impairs driving. Don't take that chance."
The launch event on Tuesday 2nd December saw 400 students from Myerscough College viewing a short film about five young people who get into a car after having consumed several drinks in a pub.
The film shows the hard hitting and shocking reality of a car crash involving young people. The students were also involved in a 'real life' demonstration of what happens when the emergency services attend a car accident caused by a young driver.
Road Safety Minister Jim Fitzpatrick said, "Drink driving ruins lives. Last year 540 people died in this pointless, avoidable way - that's lives shattered and the dreams of family and friends devastated.
"Being caught has serious consequences - a criminal record, minimum one year driving ban and large fine. It's just not worth paying this price for a couple of drinks at the Christmas party. Leave the car keys at home."
Over 500,000 motorists are stopped and breathalysed each year and more tests are carried out in December than in other months.
A Hoot spokesperson commented, "Car insurance for young drivers is already expensive when compared with the rest of the driving public, but if you drive after consuming alcohol you risk the consequences of injuring and killing other road users and maybe even your friends."
