Icy roads and snow threaten motorists

Car insurance for young drivers claims are likely to rise this coming week as road conditions continue to be affected by frost and snow.

The AA breakdown service received around 20,000 call-outs last Saturday which is a 250% increase on a normal Saturday.

According to the breakdown service, breakdowns were being reported at a rate of 2,000 every hour with the snow and icy conditions combining with the last Christmas shopping weekend and the start of the Christmas getaway.

Home start call-outs were also up as many motorists were having to call out the recovery vehicles to help pull them clear of icy drive ways and side roads.

With the expected increase in car accidents due to the treacherous road conditions, many young motorists may lose out on their cheap car insurance for young drivers if they fall foul of the icy roads and have to make a car insurance claim.
