New research by a major insurer has revealed that car insurance for young drivers is being compromised by those motorists who succumb to peer pressure while behind the wheel.
The study found that one in three young drivers admitted to changing the way they drive when they have friends in the vehicle with them.
One in five said they paid less attention to the road, while one in four admitted to taking their hands off the steering wheel.
A spokesperson for the insurance provider made calls for young drivers and passengers in their cars to take more responsibility for their own safety with measures such as the wearing of seatbelts and the safety of others by receiving further driver training after their test.
A spokesperson for Hoot, specialist providers of car insurance for young drivers, commented, "It may feel silly to buckle up and drive with due care and attention at all times, even with friends on board, but how bad will you feel about yourself when you kill three of your best friends in an avoidable car accident."
