Fibbers caught out by cognitive interviewing

Those looking to make fraudulent claims on their car insurance for young drivers had better watch out as one big insurance company has brought in the use of cognitive interviewing in the drive to cut down the number of false claims being made.

Due to the recession, an increasing number of car owners are making claims for stolen cars that are most likely just hidden away in a garage.

To battle the growing rise in fraudulent claims, insurance firm esure are using Voice Risk Analysis technology when interviewing claimants to identify tiny changes in the speaker's voice which can indicate whether a person is telling the truth or not by showing stress.

Director of claims and operations at esure, Gordon Hannah, said that the company needs to be "extremely vigilant" when investigating vehicles which do not fit the stolen car profile.

"We have found cognitive interviewing to be an effective way of spotting and clamping down on attempted fraud."

A hoot spokesperson said, "Making a fraudulent claim is a serious crime and one with serious ramifications. With such great deals to be found on car insurance for young drivers, motorists have no need to turn to such extreme measures to save money."
