Inexperienced motorists now have a legitimate reason to blame their parents if they have to make a car insurance for young drivers claim following an accident.
This is according to a recent report by the AA on the accountability which parents bear for the driving habits of their offspring.
Around 25% of AA driving instructors are of the opinion that parents pass on poor motoring habits, such as the reluctance to use mirrors, and speeding, to their sons and daughters.
Some instructors claim to have a seen a direct correlation between parents and young drivers insurance holders who drive with one hand on the wheel and are noticeably aggressive towards fellow motorists.
Simon Douglas, AA Driving School Instructor, said, "Parents should try to set a good example with their own driving - and remember to let the experts do the teaching, while they focus on helping their children gain experience."
The association revealed that a large proportion of parents don't have a great deal of confidence, or knowledge of current driving regulations.
Plus, many older motorists do not realise that they are breaking the law by instructing new drivers while talking on mobile phones.
And lastly, some experienced motorists believe that it is acceptable to fall asleep while supervising people with car insurance for young drivers who haven't yet passed their driving test.
