Drive Smart scheme to safeguard cheap
car insurance for young drivers

The AA is working alongside a Welsh police force to help battle the high volume of accidents that young drivers account for every year. It is hoped the scheme named "Drive Smart", will not only help lower the 1086 drivers under 20 who were either killed or seriously injured in 2007, but also help keep car insurance for young drivers at a low and affordable price.

Police will target drivers who are deemed to be the most at risk from causing a serious accident by pinpointing those who have already incurred an accident or have points on their license. Officers will be sent to the homes of those nominated to discuss the benefits of the program and the training involved.

As well as helping to increase the driver's road safety awareness, the 2 hour sessions run by the AA will also look at "eco-driving" to help cut fuel consumption that, along with young drivers car insurance, can make driving so expensive.

AA president Edmund King says that, "Driving causes more teenage deaths than stabbings or drugs," so it is imperative that young drivers are trained to drive more safely and with greater awareness of the consequences of their driving. If the scheme is successful, young drivers will be safer on the roads and consequently find car insurance for young drivers cheaper to find.
