Dangers of drink driving for young people

Two footballers who may possess car insurance for young people were arrested recently for having consumed excessive amounts of alcohol before driving and crashing along the M1.

High profile Aston Villa player Barry Bannan and Shrewsbury Town forward James Collins were found guilty of driving while drunk and failing to remain at the scene of the accident.

A police representative said, "Both have been bailed pending further inquiries and will return at a date in December."

Any cheap car insurance claims made by the young sports stars are likely to be rejected, as all motor insurance providers take a dim view of drink driving.

The Aston Villa manager Alex Mcleish has suspended Barry Bannan while an internal investigation is carried out regarding the incident. James Collins has been sidelined by his boss Graham Turner.

The punishment of this reckless behaviour is seen as absolutely necessary, not least because these players are seen as role models by many young people.

Drivers who are arrested for failing to abide by the laws of the road will be given additional penalty points on their licenses. They will also be subject to increased premiums on their car insurance for young people.
