Horse trailer causes car accident on American highway

In the United States, a 29-year-old man from Prosser, Idaho, suffered a non-fault car accident. He could make a car insurance claim for the extreme damage done to his vehicle, but unfortunately he may lose any no claims bonus he may have in the process.

The incident occurred when a horse trailer, which had been travelling north on U.S. Highway 195, about three miles south from the town of Colfax, lost one of its wheels causing a chain reaction that ultimately ended in the motorist's injuries and the destruction of his car.

When the wheel came off it flew into the lane of traffic coming in the opposite direction. This, in turn, caused a driver in that lane to spin out of control and collide with the victim's car.

The Prosser man's car was crushed in the collision, and he was taken to the Regional Medical Centre which is based in Lewiston, Idaho.

This man and the other road users involved, one of which suffered $2,000 (about £1,250) worth of damage to their car, may all decide to make claims on their car insurance to pay for the damage, however this may be to the detriment of their no claims bonuses and they may be without a vehicle for a while if their policy does not include vehicle replacement.

The driver of the horse trailer may find it hard to receive a cheap car insurance quote upon renewal.
