Modifications could affect car insurance quote

Motorists have been warned that modifying their vehicles could adversely affect the cost of their car insurance quote.

Motor insurance provider Gocompare.com has advised drivers to inform their insurance provider as soon as possible about any alterations to their cars.

Hayley Parsons, managing director of Gocompare.com, said: "Many drivers do not realise that any changes you make need to be declared to your insurer. If you don't, you won't be insured for the upgrades you've made and the value of the car will be based on the factory-standard fittings."

Mike Page, spokesperson for Hoot Car Insurance Services, the experts in cheap motor insurance, said "It's really important that motorists inform their policy provider about any modifications to their vehicles.

"If currently searching for the cheapest car insurance quote, safety modifications could actually see a reduction in the cost of a driver's premium."
