People with the surname Murray who live in Glasgow will be glad that motor insurance companies don't calculate people's car insurance quotes on the basis of their names.
This is because new research into motor insurance claims has revealed that Murrays living in Glasgow are a staggering 26 times more accident-prone than drivers in the city with the family name Patrick. While Patricks are the safest drivers in the city, people with the surname Murray are more likely than anyone else in Scotland to suffer some kind of road traffic mishap.
The same study also revealed that women living in Gorbals who have the first name Samantha would also be in trouble were names to play a factor in the calculation of car insurance quotes.
However, women called Sarah must be hoping that vehicle insurance companies do adopt a name-sensitive approach to the pricing of premiums, as the study showed them to be among the most incident-free drivers on Scotland's roads.
While commenting on the research, although The Association of British Insurers did not categorically rule out the possibility of name ever being a factor in the cost of premiums, a spokesperson did say, "Occupation and other factors like address and driving record are relevant."
