Young driver schemes in Thames valley
Road traffic accident figures are always of concern to providers of car insurance. Young motorists are the highest risk group of drivers; however, young driver safety schemes have recently been heralded as contributory in reducing road deaths in the Thames Valley area of the UK.
Provisional figures for 2008 reveal that 95 people were killed on the region's roads; this figure represents a 20 percent reduction on 2007 figures, and 34 percent fewer fatalities than in 2006.
Mick Doyle, Superintendent of Roads Policing at Thames Valley Police, said, "The reduction is wonderful news but no comfort for those families that have lost a loved one this year.
"Far too often officers have to break the news to somebody that their son, daughter, wife or husband is never coming home again.
"The reduction comes as a result of the dedicated commitment of many agencies: Intelligence led police enforcement and education initiatives like The Young Driver Scheme and Safe Drive, Stay Alive make important contributions."
A spokesperson for Hoot Car Insurance, young driver specialists, said, "These figures hopefully prove that young driver safety schemes play a significant part in reducing car accidents on the nation's roads."
