Brits pay over the odds for cars which give cheap insurance

New research from the AA shows that UK drivers are paying over the odds for cars that are meant to save them money.

Of the quarter of Britons who are planning to buy a new car in 2007, 27 percent want one that promises cheap car insurance and has better fuel economy.

Besides that, 31 percent would like a new car which is cheap to maintain and 20 percent want one that makes less of an impact on the environment. Both qualities also lead to cheaper car insurance for the owner.

According to the AA, however, the 'savvyness' British drivers show when it comes to motor insurance does not extend as far as their car buying technique.

"Too many people take expensive forecourt finance, not shopping around for a good deal," said a spokesman for the cheap car insurance provider. "Convenience is costing Brits millions every year."
