Learner drivers who thought they had enough to worry about with the rising costs of young persons car insurance may be alarmed to hear about upcoming changes to the theory test.
According to the Driving Instructors Association (DIA) the changes are designed to prevent learners from memorising the answers before sitting their tests.
It claims that the new system will encourage greater initiative and improve people's ability to deal with potentially dangerous motoring situations.
A spokesperson for the AA driving school said, "Learners should not unduly worry about the changes to the test.
"The new test calls for greater understanding, which can be gained from professional tuition and some time spent revising – both of which would have been needed to pass the theory test confidently before the changes."
It is hoped that the test alterations will go some way towards reducing young driver accident rates, and therefore increase motorist's chances of obtaining cheap car insurance.
It is almost certain to cause a boost in sales of the Highway Code and an improved understanding of basic road safety issues.
Drivers who remain unconfident about their ability to avoid hazards should consider the possibility of taking an advanced driver training course.
