Vehicle in the lowest insurance category is a winner

Apart from being a firm favourite among the UK's cheap car insurance policyholders, the Volkswagen Up now has a place among the winners of the prestigious What Car? of the year award.

The voters were apparently impressed by the style, economy and capaciousness of Volkswagen's city car.

The What Car? Editor-in-chief said, "It sets news standards for the £10,000 price bracket. It feels at home in town and copes admirably on the motorway – it is the right car for the time."

Buyers of this compact vehicle should have little difficulty obtaining inexpensive young driver insurance, as it is kitted out with a variety of sophisticated security devices.

Those people who are especially keen to guard against theft may also want to take a look at the MG6, which was voted most secure car by readers of the What Car? magazine. This vehicle is reportedly so hard to break into that it achieved a five star rating in the Thatcham anti-theft test.

Drivers who are interested in such motoring achievements may well be excited to hear that this year's British Insurance Awards are set to take place in the Royal Albert Hall in July.

Some well known cheap car insurance companies are expected to be on the short-list for the general insurer of the year award.
