Cheap car insurance and bird poo, you ain't covered
This summer, no matter how much damage is caused, one thing you won't be able to claim for on your cheap car insurance is bird poo damage.
As the influx of migrating birds to the UK hits its peak, a Zurich Insurance survey warns that "bird strikes" can be costly accidents.
Out of motorists reporting bird dropping incidents on their vehicles, 38% received lasting damage, with 11% describing dull spots on paintwork and 8% reporting permanent discolouration.
The report revealed one in twelve motorists saying that the acidic droppings had eaten away at paintwork, whilst 13% of drivers admitted to scratching bodywork as a result of trying to remove the mess.
But bird poo does not only cause costly paintwork damage; if left un-repaired, it can have serious consequences for the resale value of your vehicle.
Drivers affected by droppings claimed various devaluation amounts: 13% said it had reduced their car's selling price by £200, 7% claimed £400.
Motor insurance industry experts have said that bird poo costs UK motorists £57m in damages, but advise that this is not something your cheap car insurance will cover.
