Cheap car insurance holders who are confident and respectful drivers might hope that transport authorities and the police do their best to make the road a safer place for them too.
However, recent statements from those responsible for the systems have revealed that only one in three speed cameras has any capability of recording the behaviour of motorists at any one time. Reportedly, this discovery applies to the whole of the UK and this has raised concerns amongst some motorists.
It has been determined that in Sussex around 66% of road users who break the speed limit are likely to escape receiving a fine for their driving offence. Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) admitted, "There is not a camera in each and every housing".
A spokesperson for the SSRP explained that "the camera stock is rotated throughout the available housings to ensure even and fair coverage throughout Sussex".
He explained that live cameras are put in place where statistics show there are higher casualty rates or a larger volume of traffic in an area.
Housings without a camera inside still flash when a speeding motorist drives past so that road users do not know where the non-recording cameras are. In this way the "educational" aspect of the speed cameras is still present – teaching motorists to slow down.
Cheap car insurance holders, whether or not they are new drivers, should keep an eye on their speed dial and make sure that they respect the rules of the road to reduce the risk of a car accident or speeding conviction from occurring.
