Cheap car insurance and the solar powered concept car
The car industry appears to be in a state of terror; fuel prices are soaring, cheap car insurance has to be hunted for and the planet is being choked by gas guzzling monster cars.
Is it any wonder then that motoring media is chock full of reports on green concept cars that will do a million miles to the gallon, and are so eco-friendly you could actually afford to put a regular light bulb back in your tiffany table lamp?
The latest planet saving concept model is from new Swiss car manufacturer Mindset.
A previous incarnation of the prototype was known as the Mindset MIT E-Motion hybrid car, but has now hit the auto press as Mindset Six50. It is apparently intended to have a kerb weight of 650kg, but the prototype weighed in at a portly 800kg, and will have to eat salad for a while if it is to be known by this moniker.
The Six50 is a solar powered Li-Ion battery/ petrol engine hybrid car; boasting an electric only range of approximately 62 miles. The two cylinder petrol motor will kick in as a generator when required, boosting the range to 496 miles. The added bonus of integrated roof top solar panels further assists in battery charging.
Mindset hope to have the car on sale in Europe by late 2009 at a price of around €50,000. There has been no projected UK price as of yet.
A Hoot cheap car insurance spokesperson said, "We love the ultra modern styling of the Mindset Six50, juxtaposed with classic retro touches such as the round headlights and floating rear wheel arches."
