Clearing up cheap car insurance confusion

Following recent confusion over young drivers' cheap car insurance and named drivers Ian Crowder at AA Insurance has provided some useful advice.

When buying your motor insurance if you put a named driver on your policy, such as a parent or a flat mate, it may reduce your premium. However, the definite benefit of a named driver is that he or she will be covered with the same level of policy as yourself, even if their own car insurance does not have a Driving Other Cars (DOC) clause.

DOC clauses are being withdrawn by many car insurance providers and having a named driver on your policy will enable them to drive your car legally in an emergency or whenever you wish them to.

Ian Crowder notes that it will not affect your cheap car insurance cover if the named driver does not drive the car over the duration of the policy.
