Cheap car insurance could be helped by new safety campaign
Lewis Hamilton is probably unlikely to qualify for cheap car insurance for young drivers, but he is backing a road safety campaign that might help some of the other young motorists out there find cover at a reasonable cost. The 24-year-old Formula 1 champ is supporting the Make Roads Safe campaign which aims to cut the global toll of road deaths from 1.3million in 2008 to 900,000 by 2020. At present, as car ownership increases rapidly in developing countries, road deaths are increasing and are set to reach 1.9 million by 2020 if current trends persist. According to the World Health Organisation, road crashes are expected to become the leading cause of disability and premature death for children aged 5-14 by 2015 and the campaign organisers are urging world leaders to invest £180 million to prevent road deaths in poorer countries. Speaking in the Times, Hamilton said, "The speed limit is there for a reason and I think everyone should stick to it. I do. "Everyone has made mistakes, even myself in my past. But you learn lessons from this. When you are more aware of the implications of your actions, you take more care. A spokesperson for Hoot Car Insurance services commented, "If young driver car accidents were reduced, cheap car insurance for young drivers would become more accessible in the long run and the dreadful toll on young life would lessen. The Make Roads Safe campaign will hopefully have a positive effect on these objectives."
