Young Driver's Assessment with RoSPA

Traffic accidents remain the largest single cause of death and injury to young adults and for this reason cheap car insurance for young drivers is often hard to come by.

However, a new initiative from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) aims to give 17 to 24-year-olds the chance to improve their driving safety.

The Young Driver's Assessment, launched at the beginning of May, is available throughout the UK and offers objective appraisals of young driver skills.

The hour-long appraisal is conducted by a RoSPA trainer who evaluates the candidate's driving technique, attitude and ability.

A verbal and written report of the assessment is then given to the young driver.

Rick Wood, head of training at RoSPA's driver and fleet solutions team, said, "Our assessment is a great start in improving the current state of affairs for young drivers - the blunt fact is that many of them crash soon after passing their test.

According to RoSPA's press release the best time to take the assessment is between six and nine months after gaining a full licence as this can be a time when complacency regarding safe driving begins.

By highlighting and stopping those bad habits from forming accidents can hopefully be prevented and by driving for a year without making a motor cover claim, young motorists can ensure they get cheaper car insurance for young drivers.
