A recent survey by Santander has shown that in total £1.1 million is spent by UK motorists on making short journeys by car.
The study, which included road users with cheap car insurance for young people, revealed that one third of all drivers in Britain regularly use their car to get to a destination which would only take them 10 to 15 minutes to reach on foot.
The managing director at Santander explained that even at a time of economic crisis, when fuel is expensive and household budgets are tighter than usual, "many motorists still give in to the temptation of using the car".
Motorists with car insurance for new drivers may want to reduce the cost of owning a vehicle by buying a more fuel efficient car. Alternatively, they might choose to purchase cover which is specifically designed for low-mileage drivers, so they may be more likely to think hard before making an unnecessary journey.
By cutting down on car usage, walking short journeys and finding a policy for cheap car insurance for young people which suits their individual need, motorists who are new to the road can stop themselves being priced off it.
