Cheap car insurance news 05/12/2007
50% of drivers in the darkIt is not the kind of behaviour you would recommend to anyone who is wanting to position him or herself for a chance of receiving cheap car insurance, but a new study by an online motor insurance company has found that, at least once a year, around 50% of UK drivers will undertake a journey at night without using their headlights. Not surprisingly, 3% of those who said they had done so reported having an accident or a near-miss while driving without their headlights - proof, if any was needed, that driving in the dark without lights is a bane to both safety and the chances of receiving cheap car insurance. The study also shed some worrying light (no pun intended, honestly) on some other failings of British drivers in coming to terms with the workings of their vehicle's illumination systems. The UK car insurance company reported that 12% of motorists had no idea they even had sidelights and that 7% were oblivious to the fact that their vehicles had foglights. Any person travelling on the roads of East Anglia can rest assured that the county's motorists are the most knowledgeable and responsible users of headlights in the UK. However, drivers in Northern Ireland can be forgiven a few flutters of the heart next time they take to the roads, as the study reported that 18% of drivers in the country believe that is never dark enough for them to warrant using their headlights.
