Young men are more of a risk
Many firms say they sell cheap car insurance. Young men would probably argue this point because the latest research published by the AA reveals that young male drivers pay, on average, up to twice the price for their car insurance premium as female drivers of the same age.
In October 2008 the AA's British Insurance Industry Index revealed the disparity between car insurance premiums for the different gender age groups.
However, as reason behind the figures an AA spokesperson also detailed the difference in value of insurance claims for young male drivers in comparison with their female peers.
The average car insurance claim for a young male driver is nearly £4,500. Female motorists in the same age group make claims for an average of £2,700. For drivers over the age of 30, claims stand at an average of £1,400 for men and £1,200 for women.
So, the average claim for a woman over 30 will cost the insurer £3,300 less than a young man aged 17-21. And it is likely, that until these figures change as a reflection of safer driving, cheap car insurance for young men will remain a scarce commodity.
