Drivers without cheap car insurance get towed in TodmordenAuthorities in the West Yorkshire town of Todmorden have begun a crackdown on vehicles being used illegally, either without road tax or cheap car insurance. Teams of inspectors and police officers are combing Todmorden streets in search of the offending cars and vans, and an automatic numberplate recognition system is in place to catch them on the move. Owners who cannot provide all the correct tax and motor insurance documentation at a spot check will either have to pay a fine or watch as their vehicle is towed away to an impound yard, where, if not re-claimed within a week, it will be crushed. "This week-long campaign will provide a real opportunity for us to speak to our communities and work together to reduce crime," said a police representative. "If you needed another reason to get cheap car insurance, this is it," said Mike Page, spokesman for Hoot Car Insurance Services.
