Online comparison practices questioned
There are mounting concerns that users of car insurance quote comparison websites may not always be getting the most competitively priced and best suited motor insurance premiums.
A recent report in Easier Finance detailed some of these concerns, such as the way many motor insurance companies pay money to car insurance quote comparison websites in order to appear at the top of their listings.
The report quoted industry insider James Harrison commenting on the online practice.
He said that the misleading arrangement "is still a feature of several comparison websites. Worryingly, these same sites appear near the top of Consumer Intelligence's latest survey."
Harrison added, "Now that consumers are used to using the internet to sort their personal finances, it is crucial that they have access to fair, relevant and easily digestible information that will help them choose the right insurance policy without unpleasant surprises when they come to buy.
"If comparison websites do not provide this, customers will indeed vote with their mouse and the market will start to decline as Consumer Intelligence predicts."
