New driver looking for affordable car insurance is shocked

A man from Berkshire could not believe the exorbitant young driver insurance quote that he received from a well known company recently.

The newly qualified driver visited a price comparison website in order to find the cheapest possible student car insurance for his W-registration Vauxhall Corsa.

Reading down the list of insurance quotes he was reportedly shocked to find one company offering a price of £72,000 – 120 times greater than the value of his run-around.

He told a national newspaper, "If I had that kind of money, I wouldn't need to drive. I could get taxis everywhere or hire a chauffeur.

"Insurance companies are punishing me because of my age and where I live."

The cheapest price that he was able to find during a lengthy search was £2,469.09.

The young Vauxhall driver wasn't alone in his failure to obtain really cheap motor insurance. Just last week a teenager from Bury was quoted £27,000 to insure his run down vehicle.

A spokesperson for a business who specialise in affordable cover said, "Parents looking to get their children on the road need to be aware of all the costs involved, not just the cost of getting them through the test or buying a low-cost first car."

In related news, the AA recently announced that premiums have gone up by 40% during the last 12 months. Motorists age between 17 and 22 are often expected to pay around £4,000 for young driver insurance.
