Cheap young drivers insurance isn't always best

Those teenagers who are struggling financially might find it very tempting to opt for cheap young drivers insurance. However, it is worth remembering that the level of cover provided by inexpensive insurance isn't usually extensive.

Many new motorists find it difficult to decide between the vast number of insurers, according to NFU Mutual. In order to make a good decision it is necessary to carefully read the small print on any young persons car insurance policy.

John Kenny, Chief Claims Officer at NFU Mutual, said, "Buying the cheapest policy may seem cost-effective at the time, but in the long run it could prove to be a false economy. The true test of any insurance policy, or provider, is when you make a claim."

Jeremy Parker, another representative of NFU Mutual, revealed that his company receive a large number of calls from people who lack a basic understanding of insurance.

He said, "One couple had an accident and discovered they had no courtesy car because they hadn't ticked a box. Another gentleman came unstuck after the police told him he wasn't adequately insured as his vehicle was clearly being used for business."

In related news, the proportion of insurance companies offering child seat protection has climbed from 3% in 2004, to 47% today. Defaqto claim that parents should look specifically for this type of cover when on the hunt for cheap young drivers insurance.
