Two friends from Cambridgeshire will be hit by higher premiums on car insurance for young drivers after causing a three-car pile-up.
The men were following one another in separate cars when the driver in front of them slowed down to make a turning. Oblivious, the first one ploughed into the back of the victim's car - and then his friend followed suit.
In court, the man at the wheel of the second car pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and was awarded five penalty points for the offence. That brought the total number on his licence to 11, which magistrates warned could be enough to disqualify him from driving outright.
The 21-year-old was also fined £170 for the accident and £55 in court costs - though this is nothing compared to the marked-up rates he'll have to pay in future towards car insurance for young drivers.
"I guess they'll think twice before travelling in convoy again," said Mike Page, spokesman for the cheap car insurance experts at Hoot Car Insurance Services.
