Young driver policies failing
Young drivers insurance is currently in the media spotlight as little seems to be effectively reducing high numbers of accidents involving these inexperienced motorists.
In the latest study, one in five young people have been found to have a crash during the first six months of driving - with youth motor insurance rates staying consistently high.
The research also revealed there has been no noticeable improvement in fatality numbers of young people killed while driving.
Study organisers RoSPA - the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents - are calling for more action to help teenagers, students and other young motorists.
RoSPA want testing and teaching methods and practice to be overhauled. A group spokesman said current UK government policies that have failed to reduce fatalities must be reviewed.
He said, "It is exactly the right time to reflect on what measures have been effective and how they can best be targeted and delivered."
Many motorists signing up fonr young drivers car insurance must pay substantial premiums because - as proven in studies like the one from RoSPA - teenagers and those aged to about 25 are more likely to be in costly accidents.
