Police seizing 500 vehicles a day

It has been revealed that the police are seizing around 500 uninsured vehicles a day, according to the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB), with the inability of many to find cheap car insurance for young drivers believed to be one of the many reasons for the proliferation of uninsured motorists.

Although the statistics have been provided by the MIB, they have been compiled on the basis of figures provided by a police helpline.

Furthermore, the MIB has taken the opportunity of the disclosure to advise motorists that working hard to ensure they find cheap car insurance for young drivers is essential not only for legal reasons but also because of the costs of driving uninsured &ndash, an uninsured driver face having their vehicle seized, losing their driving licence and being saddled with a £200 fine.

The MIB's chief executive commented, "We are working with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency to introduce the continuous insurance enforcement scheme and expect to reduce the numbers of uninsured drivers on UK roads even further."

He added, "Modern technology means that motorists who have no insurance are more likely than ever to be caught. It is simply not worth the risk."
