Online car insurance certificates will offer easy alternativeThe Department for Transport (DfT) has confirmed that a change in the law will soon make it possible for motor insurance certificates to be issued over the internet as well as by post. The certificate is an essential proof that you hold a valid car insurance policy, and without it you would not be able to purchase road tax or an MOT test for your car. The postal service has long been the only accepted delivery method, and it will remain so until the DfT amendments are written into law. With the advent of online car insurance certificates, drivers can take advantage of instant access to their proofs of insurance. As a spokesman for the Association of British Insurers (ABI) put it: "This is good news for customers and insurers. Over half of UK households are now online, and this will enable them to arrange motor insurance more speedily. "It will also help insurers provide a faster, more cost-effective service to their customers." A spokesman for Hoot Car Insurance Services said: "We've already seen rampant growth in the online car insurance market over the past few years, and the DfT's decision to make motor insurance certificates available electronically is a validation of that."
