Dealers staying afloat in economic downturn
Buyers looking out for bargain used car deals in the current economic downturn are also on the lookout for cheap car insurance for young drivers, as well as older, more experienced motorists.
The news comes from a study that shows many used car dealers are staying profitable while others are working successfully to stay afloat.
RAC, one of the UK's leading motorists' organisations, has been encouraged that many dealers were managing to stay in business despite severe falls in sales.
By selling other products such as finance, service plans and warranties on the back of the sale of individual cars, dealers are able to make sales more profitable.
RAC director Ian Simpson said, "What we are seeing is a dramatic readjustment. The market for some used vehicles, most obviously large 4x4s, has evaporated almost overnight but dealers who have successfully moved their stock into sensible areas such as superminis are doing okay."
He said shrewd dealers were managing to adapt to the toughest economic time for decades.
