Convicted drivers pay more for insurance

According to Moneysupermarket.com, motorists who choose to change radio stations or consume food while driving could end up paying very high young driver insurance premiums.,.

The price comparison website reported that over 16,000 drivers are convicted of failing to take due care and attention while behind the wheel every year.

The individuals who commit this crime are liable to face a £60 fine and have three points put on their driving licences. They are viewed as a substantial danger by many of the UK's insurers, who demand that they pay greater amounts for young persons car insurance as a result.

A leading insurance expert said, "The UK's roads are becoming busier every year so taking your eyes off the road, even for a second to make a phone call or eat a quick snack, could lead to severe, or even fatal, consequences.

"Although it may be unintentional, careless drivers are a menace on the roads and are a danger to both themselves and others. The penalties for this kind of behaviour are huge and can really impact on the cost of your insurance premiums."

Despite the repeated warnings against careless driving, 15% of the people questioned by Moneysupermarket.com admitted to not wearing seatbelts.

It is thought that newly qualified motorists do not realise the effect that acting in such an irresponsible manner may have on both their lives, the lives of others, and on their young driver insurance.
