Police carry out roadside tests on drink drivers

As thousands of Brits flock to beer gardens this summer, police are clamping down on the number of people who get behind the wheel after having a few drinks.

If you want to keep hold of your cheap car insurance, don't drink and drive. That's the warning being made this summer by police in Nottinghamshire, as they get tough on motorists driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Going back to old school methods, officers will be asking motorists to stand on one leg, walk on a straight line and place a finger on their nose.

Commenting on the new strategy, Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire, Steve Green, said: "The police service will not be willing to tolerate this type of offending and it is our intention to crack down heavily during this campaign.

"If an officer suspects that a person is unfit to drive through the use of drugs, they can be subjected to a field impairment test.

"If it is deemed to be the case and they are found guilty of such an offence, then the courts can impose the same penalties as for drink driving."

Anybody who receives a penalty could find that it affects their cheap car insurance in the future, as motor insurance companies consider those who have motoring convictions to be a higher risk.
