Dangers of drink driving for car insurance holders

The Welsh police currently stopeight people every week who are found to be over the limit when taking the breathalyser test, and some of them have student car insurance.

Numerous motoring organisations have advised people against taking to the roads after consuming alcohol. However the number of Welsh drivers caught drinking and driving has remained quite consistent in recent years.

More than 3000 motorists faced the invalidation of their car insurance after being found drunk in charge of their vehicles during 2010.

A representative of the non-profit organisation Brake stated that the ill-considered actions of these reckless drivers led to the death of many law-abiding citizens.

She revealed that there have been a large number of instances where the irresponsible behaviour of drink drivers has led to "untold devastation for families and communities".

She went on to say, "It's an outrage that drink driving is so common when the consequences can be so appalling, which is why we are calling on drivers to never drink a drop before getting behind the wheel."

One point of concern is that the Gwent police force are the only group of law enforcers in the whole of Wales to have hired more road traffic officers in a bid to combat this crime.

In related news, a company who offer student car insurance has said that motorists found to be in severe breach of the drink driving law can expect to be turned away by some insurers.
