Accrington drink driver ruins cheap car insurance rateA Lancashire drink driver will have to wait three years before getting back behind the wheel, and even after that time, his chances of finding cheap car insurance will be slim. In September 2006, the 25-year-old's car was spotted driving erratically by police in Accrington - so erratically, in fact, that they had to swerve to avoid colliding with him. Officers pulled the man over to speak to him, but were soon in hot pursuit when he accelerated away at high speed, before turning the wrong-way down a one-way street and crashing into a taxi. The man, employed appropriately enough as a plasterer, was arrested soon afterward. Breath tests at the scene proved he more than twice over the legal limit. For charges of drink driving and dangerous driving, magistrates at Burnley Crown Court have sentenced him to a six month jail term, suspended for two years, and 240 hours community service. He was also banned from driving for three years and ordered to pay £220 costs. "I imagine the effects on his motor insurance rate will be pretty serious," said Mike Page, spokesman for the cheap car insurance experts at Hoot.
