A young driver who faked his own death to avoid several speeding fines could find it difficult to get cheap car insurance in the future.
The 26-year-old from Blackburn, Lancashire, was caught speeding on three occasions in 2006 but when issued with fines, a man phoned the parking office claiming that his friend had died in 2002.
When police called the number that had been provided with the fake death certificate, the speeding driver answered the phone and admitted that his death had been a fabricated story.
At Preston Crown Court, the young driver was given a 12-month prison sentence and was also banned from driving for 18 months.
A spokesperson for Lancashire's road safety partnership said the man's licence "was clean before this spate of incidents and he would have still been able to drive - I have never known anyone to go to such lengths."
In the future, he could find it difficult to get cheap car insurance and may have to search online for the most affordable motor insurance quotes.
