UK motorists fail to give insurers their correct details in order to get a cheap car insurance quote, an online motor insurance comparison website has revealed.
Confused.com has found that a fifth of drivers would conceal such information as a different address, change or career and an increase in their annual mileage.
The recent study also found that 96% of UK car insurance customers knew that failing to pass on their correct information could actually make their policy invalid.
Managing director for Connfused.com, Debra Williams, said: "Insurers take a dim view of people who don't update them immediately should their circumstances change.
"Changes in job title or annual mileage may seem insignificant to most drivers. But this can significantly affect your premiums. If you are caught lying about your details, your insurer can reduce your payout and may even refuse to pay at all."
A spokesperson for Hoot Car Insurance Services said: "To avoid making their young driver car insurance invalid, motorists should make sure they give all their correct details to the insurer. If they are not happy with one particular quote, they can search the internet for different companies offering a cheap car insurance quote."
