Youths may risk driving without young driver car insurance
Mounting costs of young driver car insurance are set to lead to many teenagers, students, other youths and learner drivers to risk driving without cover.
This is the claim in a newspaper article which reports that critics of high car insurance rates for young people now believe there is a "perverse incentive" for youngsters to break the law.
Car insurance for young drivers aged 18 can be as high as £1750, reported the Daily Mail, and these rates are rising. Recent premium increases reached heights of six per cent.
A spokesperson for Hoot Car Insurance Services said, "Young people's quotes might appear high but, unfortunately, younger motorists are ten times more likely to be involved in crashes than any other age group.
"It is not easy for young drivers looking for car cover - but breaking the law is the worst possible thing to consider doing.
"It would be terrible to injure a third party in an accident and not be insured. Worse, such an illegal act would be likely to result in heavy fines and jail terms."
Hoot is a firm specialising in young driver car insurance.
