The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), which has helped many people secure cheap car insurance for young drivers, recently said that there is a feeling of overconfidence among novice motorists.
Although inexperienced motorists are involved in a large proportion of road accidents, many 'boy and girl racers' still feel the need to show off after passing their tests.
The Department for Transport revealed that male drivers aged 17-29 are at the greatest risk of being involved in road accidents. Some of these drivers have shown a complete lack of regard for the national speed limit and the well-being of their fellow road users.
An IAM representative stated, "Young male drivers suffer from a lethal combination of overconfidence and inexperience. They don't need curfews and other restrictions on their driving; they need to practice and gain driving experience safely."
The spokesperson went on to point out that some youngsters have spent a large amount of money on student car insurance, only to later sadly lose their lives in preventable crashes.
The suggested solution is to offer benefits such as cheap cover to road users who take advanced driver training courses to improve their motoring skills.
Companies offering car insurance for young drivers often look favourably upon those who have successfully completed courses such as Pass Plus.
