Friday night driving puts young driver car insurance at three times the risk

Several motor insurance firms now offer discounted young driver car insurance for those who drive only during the daytime - and the latest study from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) shows why.

According to the research, young male motorists are at far greater risk of an accident on Friday and Saturday nights than they are during daylight hours.

In fact, the risk can be up to three times higher between 11pm and 1am - meaning some 76 young male drivers are hurt or killed between these hours every weekend.

"We need a government information campaign to make young drivers aware of the dangers of driving at night," said a spokesman for the ABI, which represents young driver car insurance firms across the industry.
