Crash pair caught without young driver car insuranceTwo men from Whitehaven in Cumbria who 'borrowed' and then crashed a friend's car while he slept have been charged with aggravated vehicle taking and getting behind the wheel without a licence or young driver car insurance. The men, aged 18 and 22, said they took the keys in an attempt to stop others from driving the Peugeot 206, after its owner fell asleep during a get-together. In the event, however, the temptation to drive the car themselves was overwhelming - and soon they were out taking turns at the wheel. It was the elder of the two who lost control, flipping the Peugeot onto its side in a field. Police discovered them and soon realised that neither held a valid licence or young driver car insurance for the crashed vehicle. The younger driver, who had actually taken the keys, received a four-month jail sentence suspended for two years. On top of that, both were ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid community work and were banned from driving for two years - after which time, their chances of finding cheap car insurance will be greatly reduced.
