Drunk learner spoils chance of cheap car insurance

A German learner will have to wait at least 'a few years' to obtain a driving licence or cheap car insurance after failing his driving test for what can only be described as a major fault.

It's not reported how he fared on roundabouts or parallel parking, but one thing about his performance is known for certain: it was hindered by the fact that he was three times over the drink drive limit.

He arrived at the test centre in Bendorf, Western Germany smelling strongly of alcohol but denied he had been drinking when questioned. However, the man's erratic driving on the test itself confirmed his examiner's suspicions.

"His driving was rather bad," confirmed a police spokesman.

Rather than returning to the test centre as expected, the man found himself directed to the local police station - where he was breathalysed and promptly arrested

"As bad starts go, this is probably one of the worst," said Mike Page, spokesman for the cheap car insurance experts at Hoot.

"We don't know exactly what he'll be charged with, but you can bet most motor insurance firms won't look to kindly on him in future," he added.
